B2

?
Describe the structure of the leaf and the functions of the tissues.
Cuticle–reduce water loss. Epidermis–no chloroplasts so light can penetrate. Stomata–allow CO2 in, O2 out, controls water loss. Palisade (mesophyll)–many chloroplasts trap light or near top so more light. Mesophyll–air spaces for fast movement of gas
1 of 9
Describe the effect trypsin would have on baby food.
Breaks down / digests food from protein into amino acids makes softer / runnier.
2 of 9
What are some uses of enzymes in the industry?
Carbohydrase-starch to sugar or lactose for glucose or making sugar syrup. Isomerase- glucose to fructose or making slimming foods. Lipase- fats / oils to fatty acids for removal of grease stains.
3 of 9
Explain how ribosomes and mitochondria help the cell to make enzymes.
Ribosomes make proteins / enzymes using amino acids. Mitochondria provide the energy for the process.
4 of 9
What is a dominant allele?
A dominant allele is allele expressed even when other allele present or expressed if just one copy of allele is present or expressed if heterozygous.
5 of 9
What are the differences between anaerobic and aerobic respiration?
Oxygen used in aerobic respiration. More energy from aerobic. Carbon dioxide and water end products of aerobic. Lactic acid end product of anaerobic.
6 of 9
Explain the advantage of the change in heart rate during exercise.
More oxygen to muscles and more glucose to muscles. Results in faster removal of carbon dioxide and faster removal of lactic acid.
7 of 9
What are the differences between mitosis and meiosis?
Mitosis one cell division, meiosis two cell division. Cells produced by mitosis have two sets of chromosomes, cells produced by meiosis have one set of chromosomes.
8 of 9
Scientists are uncertain about how life started on Earth. Explain why.
There is a lack of valid / reliable evidence because the early organisms soft bodied / remains destroyed by geological action.
