B2 - Enzymes and digestion

?
What 7 organs are found are found within the digestive system?
Stomach, liver, salivary glands, gall bladder, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine.
1 of 11
In the digestive system, what is the function of the stomach?
It pummels the food with its muscular walls. It produces the protease enzyme, pepsin. It produces hydrochloric acid to kill bacteria and to give the right pH for protease enzyme to work(pH 2).
2 of 11
In the digestive system, what is the function of the liver?
Where bile is produced, which neutralises stomach acid and emulsifies fats.
3 of 11
In the digestive system, what is the function of the salivary glands?
These produce amylase enzyme in the saliva.
4 of 11
In the digestive system, what is the function of the gall bladder?
Where bile is stored, before it's released into the small intestine.
5 of 11
In the digestive system, what is the function of the pancreas?
Produces protease, amylase and lipase enzymes. It releases these into the small intestine.
6 of 11
In the digestive system, what is the function of the small intestine?
Produces protease, amylase and lipase enzymes to complete digestion. This also where the digested food is absorbed out of the digestive system into the blood.
7 of 11
In the digestive system, what is the function of the large intestine?
Where excess water is absorbed from the food.
8 of 11
What are enzymes?
Biological catalysts, which are substances that increase the speed of a reaction, without being changed or used up in the reaction.
9 of 11
What are the sites of production and the action of amylase (carbohydrates)?
Amylase is made in the salivary glands, pancreas and small intestine. Carbohydrases breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars (amylase breaks down starch into maltose and other simple sugars).
