What also causes a lot of extinctions at once?
A single catastrophic event.

What is one reason why the dinosaurs dies out?
Collision with giant astroid = huge fires, earthquakes and landslides. Dust rose = masked the sun. plants could grow and temperature fell.

Another reason that the dinosaurs died out?
Slow process of cooling due to sea ice melting = temperature went down by 9oC = less plankton = less food avaliable.
