B1=Science-Staying Healthy

?
What kind of single-celled microscopic is malaria caused by?
Protozoan which is called, PLASMODIUM.
1 of 8
Which insect is carried by plasmodium?
Mosquitoes
2 of 8
Plasmodium is a parasite. If it eats other oragnisms, which one is predator and which one is the prey?
Plasmodium is the predator and the organism/s who is getting eaten by, is the prey.
3 of 8
Name the disease-causing organisms that increase the chance of an infectious disease by damaging the body's cells or producing poisonous waste products.
Pathogens is a bacteria or virus that can cause diseases.
4 of 8
How can the body kill the pathogens?
The body shields itself and produces anti-bodies, which lock onto antigens (a toxin which induces an immune response in the body, especially the production of antibodies.)
5 of 8
Which kind of blood cell produces anti-bodies?
Human white blood cells produces antibodies, resulting in active immunity. Can be a slow process but is a long-lasting effect. Vaccinations using antibodies from another human or animal result in passive immunity, which is a quick but short term effect
6 of 8
How much of a risk does immunisations carry?
Immunisations carries a small risk to the individual, but it avoids the potentially lethal effect of the pathogen, as well as decreasing the risk of a disease.
7 of 8
What is the difference between antibiotics and antiviral drugs?
Antibiotics cure the disease by killing or injuring the bacteria. Antiviral drugs are only specifically fighting for viral infections. Unlike most antibiotics, antiviral does not destroy the pathogens but stop their development of increasing.
