What is a pathogen?
A pathogen is any microorganism that can cause disease
1 of 82
What is a parasite?
A parasite is an organism that lives on its host and harms it. It has to be in the host to live, grow and multipy
2 of 82
What is a host?
A host is the person who has been affected by the parasite
3 of 82
What is a vector?
A vector is the mosquito that carries the disease

What are the 4 types of pathogens?
Fungi, Bacteria, Viruses & Protozoa
5 of 82
What are three things your white blood cells do to attack diseases?
White blood cells engulf foreign cells and digest them. White blood cells produce anitoxins to kill the invading bacteria & white blood cells produce antibodies which lock onto antigens and kill them.
6 of 82
What is active immunity?
Active immunity is when we make an antibody so that it can be mass produced so that if the same disease invades us again we will be immune.
7 of 82
What is passive immunity?
Passive immunity is when sometimes our body cannot make the antibodies in time. This can be life threatening so doctors can inject us with antibodies that have been made by someone else.

What factors prevent microbes getting into the body?
Skin (stops infection), Tears (chemical kills bacteria), Hairs in nose (filter out dirt & dust), Mucus (traps dirt & dust)
