B1 - You & Your Genes

?
DNA
The material inside the nucleus of a cell, carrying genetic information. DNA stands for Deoxyribonnucleic Acid

Chromosomes
Chromosomes are structures found in the nucleus of most cells. They consist of long strands of a substance called DNA. A section of DNA that has genetic code for making a particular protein called is called a gene.

Gene
The basic unit of genetic material inherited from our parents. A gene is a section of DNA which controls part of a cell's chemistry - particularly protein production.
3 of 5
Variation
ny difference between cells, individual organisms, or groups of organisms of any species caused either by genetic differences (genotypic variation) or by the effect of environmental factors on the expression of the genetic potentials (phenotypic vari

Proteins
A molecule composed of polymers of amino acids joined together by peptide bonds. It can be distinguished from fats and carbohydrates by containing nitrogen. Other components include carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, sulphur, and sometimes phosphorus.
