B1 Classification, inheritance & Variation

?
What is classification?
The method used by scientists to order living organisms
1 of 10
What are the divisions of classification?
Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species
2 of 10
What are the 5 Kingdoms?
Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Prokaryotae, Protoctista
3 of 10
What are the properties of Animalia?
Cells do not have a cell wall. Multicellular and feed on other organisms.
4 of 10
What are the properties of Plantae?
Cells have a cellulose cell wall. They use light energy to produce food by photosynthesis.
5 of 10
What are the properties of Fungi?
Cells have chitin cell walls. Reproduce using spores rather than seeds.
6 of 10
What are the properties of Prokaryotae?
Have a cell wall but not made from cellulose. Cells have no nucleus.
7 of 10
What are the properties of Protoctista?
Exist as single cells or colonies of single cells.
8 of 10
Why is being able to classify species important to scientists?
it allows them to accurately identify individual species wherever they are
9 of 10
Why is the binomial naming system important? (3)
- clearly identify species - study and conserve species -target conservation efforts.
