B1.6.3 Genetic and Environmental differences + B1.6.4 Cloning

HideShow resource information
What are two factors which control some of our characteristics?
The genes which we inherit and environmental causes (such as diet).
1 of 8
What is the most important factor in controlling the appearance of an individual?
Genes.
2 of 8
How can a human development be affected during pregnancy?
If the mother smokes or drinks a lot of alcohol, the baby may have a small birth weight.
3 of 8
What can plants be affected by?
Lack of light, nutrients or space to grow.
4 of 8
How do we clone plants?
We clone plants quickly and easily by taking cuttings from mature plants and using a tissue culture using cells from a small part of the original plant.
5 of 8
How do we clone animals?
Transplanting cloned embryos is one way in which animals are cloned.
6 of 8
Why do we want to create clones?
Cloning is used to produce new individuals that are useful in farming and agriculture.
7 of 8
Why is it more difficult to successfully clone animals than plants?
Animal embryos must be split into groups of cells and then each group is transplanted into a host 'mother'. There have to be enough hosts and some embryos may die during development. It also takes longer for the animals to develop.
