The nervous system uses electrical impulses to enable you to respond to your surroundings and coordinate what you do.
1 of 10
What is a receptor?
Receptors are cells that detect stimuli (changes in the environment)
2 of 10
How do you respond to changes in your surroundings?
Impluses from receptors pass along sensory neurons to the spinal cord (CNS). Impluses are sent along motor neurons from the brain (CNS) to the effector organs.
3 of 10
What is a neuron?
Basic cell of the nervous system which carries electrical impulses around the body.
4 of 10
What is a nerve?
Bundles of hundreds or even thousands of neurons.
5 of 10
What is a sensory neuron?
Neuron which carries impulses from the sensory organs to the central nervous system.
6 of 10
What is a motor neuron?
Neuron that carries impulses from the central nervous system to the effector organs.
7 of 10
What stimuli are detected by the sense organs?
Light, sound, chemicals, temperature changes, touch and pain.
8 of 10
Name the two main types of effector in the human body.
Glands and muscles.
9 of 10
What is an effector neuron?
