What are the six essentential nutrients?
Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, Water.

What is the function of carbohydrates?
To provide energy.

To provide/store energy, provide insulation.

For growth, repair, energy.

What is the function of vitamin C?
Prevents scurvy.

What is the function of iron?
To make haemoglobin for red blood cells/healthy blood.

Prevent dehydration.

What are carbohydrates made up of and stored?
Glucose + in the liver.

What are fats made up of? (2) Where are they stored?
Fatty acids, glycerol + around organs.

What are proteins made up of?
Amino Acids.

What are essential amino acids?
Can't be made by the body.

Animal proteins are called first class proteins, why?
They contain all the essential amino acids.

Why does a balanced diet vary between people? Why?
1) Age - Children need more protein for growth. 2) Gender - Females need more iron to replace lost iron in menstrual blood. 3) Physical Activity - More protein for muscle development.
