What are drugs?
Chemicals that affect the way the body works.

What are stimulants?
Speeds up nervous system. E.g. ecstacy and caffeine.

What are depressants or sedatives?
slows down nervous system. E.g. alcohol and tranquillisers.

What are paikillers or anaesthetics?
stops or slows down nervous system, reduces pain felt. E.g. aspirin, paracetamol and heroin.

What are performance-enhancing drugs?
Increase muscle development. E.g anabolic steroids.

What are hallucinogens?
alters the vision of mind, distorted perceptions. E.g LSD

What do stimulants do to the nervous system?
Increase amount of transmitter substance released at synapses, increasing activity in brain.

What do depressants do to the nerous system?
Bind with receptor molecules in the membrane of the next neurone, blocking the transmission of impulses. this reduces brain activity making you feel dopey.

What is addiction?
A psychological need for something, meaning you always want more.

What is rehabilitation?
Process by which an addict gradually learns to live without the drug.

What are the effects of alcohol?
Cause damage to liver (cirrhosis) or brain ( due to dehydration)

What are the effects of smoking?
Causes cancer, high blood presure blocked blood vessels and heart disease

Why is carbonmonoxide dangerous?
stcks to red blood cells preventing haemoglobin which carries oxyge to enter red blood cell, red blood cell lacks oxygen eventually dies out.
