- Most people living there work in mines. - Australia has some of world's largest reserves of quality iron ore. silver+gems. - Coober Pedy in South Australia is world's opal capital(70% of world's opal comes from there). - Complex, resource heavy.

- In Australia most retired people who move go to coast but there are some retirement villages in outback, at Whyalla and Mount Gambier in South Australia.

Settlement
- Houses built underground to escape heat (e.g. in Coober Pedy). - Vast amount of space - expansion. - Their 'towns' are like our 'hamlets'. - A main town had pop. of only 2 people. - Towns+villages set up nr to opportunites, e.g. nr places to mine.
