What was the 1st settlement
Augutsus was given proconsular imperium for 10 years, with imperium over other proconsuls. But he wanted to normalise his position, so renounced his powers to the Senate (RG quote). He then held equal imperium with his colleagues.

What was the 2nd settlement
His illness and a conspiracy prompted the settlement (Suetonius quote); conspiracy highlighted senatorial resentment. Given tribunician power for life, as well as Maius Imperium (compensation for loss of imperium in 1st settlement).

Given proconsul imperium over provinces without holding the position of consul. Refused dictatorship (see RG and Suetonius quotes)
