1 of 9
What is working memory?
The part om memory that is involved with actively focusing and keeping attention on appropriate information. It holds relevant information on line for a processing task
2 of 9
Who tested the idea that differences in people's WM ability would influence processing of auditory information from attended and unattended channels.
Conway, Cowan & Bunting (2001)
3 of 9
How was this tested?
By testing the probability someone will hear their own name on the unattended channel and their working memory ability.
4 of 9
What sort of task can be used to measure working memory?
An operation span task
5 of 9
How does an operation span task work?
Given a simple maths problem and answer, is the answer correct or incorrect - given word to remember - span measure was based on length of the series they could remember correctly.

They took the top and bottom 25% WM scores and tested them on how well they did at shadowing a message and ignoring the non-shadowed message (which included their name).

What were the results?
65% of the low WM group heard their name, only 20% of the higher WM group heard their name.
