What does ATP stand for?
Adenosine Triphosphate
1 of 7
Can energy be created or destroyed?
No
2 of 7
Name 4 things organisms use energy for?
Metabolism, Movement, Active Transport and maintence of body temperature
3 of 7
How does ATP release energy?
The bonds between the 3 phosphate groups are unstable and have a low activation energy, so can be broken easily releasing energy
4 of 7
What process converts ATP to ADP + Pi
Hydrolysis because water is added to the molecule to break it up
5 of 7
Why is ATP called the immediate energy source of a cell?
Because it can be easily hydrolyzed releasing energy straight away
6 of 7
Where is ATP made?
In the mitochondria of cells
