VERSION 1
dq = CvdT + pda
1 of 13
VERSION 2
dq = CpdT - adp
2 of 13
VERSION 3
dq = dh - adp
3 of 13
what are version 2 and 3 useul for?
isobaric processes
4 of 13
in version 3, what is dh?
h is enthaply, which is the total heat content of a system that = u + p.a, an (internal energy plus the product of pressure and volume)
5 of 13
why does enthaply inc?
the atmosphere is heated (by the sun or absorbing the earht long wave radiation). inc of internal energy or potential energy (as center of gravity of atm rises)
6 of 13
what is an air parcel?
a homogenouse mass or ol of air that moves horizontally or vertically in the atm as an intact unit. it'sthermodynamic state is initially the same as when it originated and its treated as an isolated system.
7 of 13
what is the parcel method?
it determiines the change nmass or vol of air as it moves in the atm.
8 of 13
what assuptions are made by the parcel method?
doesn't mix with the environment, retaining it's identity, and this motion doesn't disturb the environment. the pressure of the parcel adjusts instantaneously to the ambient pa of the surrounding fluid. and it is thermally insulated from the enviro.
9 of 13
ATM LAPSE RATE?
6.5 C/KM
10 of 13
DALR?
9.8C/KM
11 of 13
WHAT IS POTENTIAL TEMPERATURE?
THE TEMP A PARCEL OF DRY AIR WOULD HAVE IF IT EXPANDED OR COMPRESSED ADIABATICALLY FROM IT'S INITIAL PA TO PA OF 1000MB
12 of 13
POTENTIAL T EQN?
THETA = T(1000/PA)Rd/Cp
