two parents' gametes combine to produce offspring that are genetically different to them
1 of 12

Meiosis
2 of 12
What do both parents produce?
gametes e.g egg & sperm
3 of 12
How many chromosomes does each gamete have?
23 chromosomes
4 of 12
What is the full number of chromosomes that a cell has?
46 chromosomes
5 of 12
What actually happens in sexual reproduction?
the egg and sperm fuse (fertilisation) and form a cell (43 chromosomes)
6 of 12
What does fertilisation mean for the offspring?
VARIATION - the mixture of genetic info means that the offspring inherits features from both parents
7 of 12
What type of reproduction do flowers do?
SEXUAL - they have an egg but their sperm is pollen
8 of 12
What is Asexual reproduction?
