AS AQA Phys Unit 1 (5)

Practice exam questions/important points with relevent answers/descriptions on the reverse side. This set is for wave-particle duality and for current, potential difference and resistance.

?
What is meant by the wave-particle duality of electromagnetic radiation? (1 mark)
Electromagnetic radiation can show characteristics of both a particle and a wave (1)
1 of 5
If protons and neutrons are accelerated from rest with the same potential difference, why will they have different wavelengths? -same p.d. means same kinetic energy (3 marks)
Same kinetic energy means same voltages. Proton has larger mass and therefore smaller speed (1) Kinetic energy is proportional to square of speed, momentum is proportional to speed, so they'll have different momenta (1) Wavelength is different (1)
2 of 5
What is the de Broglie equation? (1 mark)
Wavelength is equal to Planck's constant over momentum, which is mass multiplied by velocity (1)
3 of 5
What is the average current is a battery delievers 4500C of electric charge to a circuit in 10 minutes? (2 marks) -use Data and Formulae Booklet
Time in seconds = 10*60 = 600, I = Q/t (1) Therefore, I = 4500/600 = 7.5A (1)
4 of 5
Name an environmental factor which is likely to alter the resistance of a component. (1 mark)
Temperature (1)
