The cognitive aproach strives to explain behaviour as a result of our mental processes such as attention, memory and comprehension.

Improved our understanding of people at different ages and stages of development. Helps us positively influence childrens behaviour.

Some areas are hard to study scientifically. There are many ethical issues with working with children as research could scar them.

Biological psychology is concerned with genes, nervous system and hormones effects on our behaviour.

It uses scientific research methods. Leads to advances in understanding.

Lack of ecological validity because of lab experiments. Reductionist idea. Attempts to explain complex behaviour scientifically.
