Why is Pevensey Bay being protected?
10,000 properties immediately inland, A249 inland, Pevensey levels (SSSI) would be flooded with salt water, high amount of high value agricultural land.

How is beach replenisment used?
Used to counteract dominant waves from SW, 2000 cubic meters a year is displaced, beach levels checked regularly using GPS.

How is beach re-profiling used?
Every few years beach re-profiling occurs to reduce longshore drift.

How are groynes used?
150 groynes replaced with more strategically placed groynes, beach is more open and attractive.

Why is Ventor to Bonchurch being protected?
Western area is recognised has having valuable habitats, millions of pounds of property close to the coastline, main E-W communications route, Ventor has old buildings without mass movement protection, areas 200m inland at risk of slumping.

How is the sea wall being used?
A continuous sea wall has been built after previous defences collapsed due to high levels of corrasion during the 1970's.

Situated at the base of the sea wall .

Great Wigborough, Essex.

How is managed retreat being used?
Covers 280 hectares of land N of the estuary, conserves wildlife such as pipe-weed and shellfish.

Why is managed retreat occurring here?
Used as a WWF show-piece to the UK government over how affective managed retreat is, development of salt-marsh would support the biodiversity of the Blackwater River, sea wall was expensive to maintain, salt marshes storm protection to nearby farm.

How is Abbots Hall farm project sustainable?
Environmentally sustainable due to salt-marshes providing habitat to fauna and flora, nearby farm transformed into guest centre to make it economically sustainable, environments created for displaced animals, earth-bunds prevent salt-water intrusion.
