Do animals cells contain ribosomes?
Yes.
2 of 26
Do plant cells contain mitochondria or a permanent vacuole?
Permanent Vacuole.
3 of 26
What's one difference between an animal cell and a bacterial cell?
Animal cell has a nucleus; Bacterial cell has cell wall.
4 of 26
What is the process in which a cell becomes specialised?
Differentiation.
5 of 26
What is diffusion?
The spreading of particles from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration.
6 of 26
In the digestive system, what are the two functions of the small intestine?
To digest food and absorb soluble foods ?
7 of 26
Where in the digestive system is protease produced? (3)
Stomach, Pancreas and Small Intestine.
8 of 26
What is the function of epithelial tissue?
Covers parts of the body, e.g. Stomach.
9 of 26
Name three plant tissues and their functions.
Epidermal - cover plant, Mesophyll - carry out photosynthesis, Xylem and Phloem - transport substances.
10 of 26
For photosynthesis to occur, what does a plant require?
CO2, Water and Light.
11 of 26
What is the glucose in plants used for?
To produce fat or oil for storage, to produce cellulose and to produce proteins.
12 of 26
What are proteins made up of?

What are enzymes?
Biological catalysts.
14 of 26
What enzymes are used in biological detergents?
Proteases and lipases.
15 of 26
Name one difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration.
Aerobic uses oxygen; Aerobic produces CO2 and water; Anaerobic produces lactic acid.
16 of 26
What are the benefits of the increase in heart rate during exercise?
Increase in blood flow, increase in oxygen supply to muscles, more energy released, faster removal of CO2.
17 of 26
In what type of cell division are copies of the genetic material made?
Mitosis
18 of 26
What type of cell division is used to form gametes?
Meiosis

**
21 of 26
What is an allele?
A form of a gene.
22 of 26
What are fossils?
The remains of organisms from millions of years ago that are found in rocks.
23 of 26
How are fossils formed? (4)
Hard parts (bones), Parts that didn't have the right conditions, Parts that are replaced by other materials, Preserved traces e.g. Footprints.
24 of 26
What can extinction be caused by?
Changes to environment, New predators, New diseases, New competitors, A single catastrophic event, Speciation.
