Adaptation
A characteristic that helps an organism to survive.
1 of 6
Extremophile
An organism that is adapted to live in seriously extreme conditions.
2 of 6
Living Indicators
Organisms that are very sensitive to changes in the environment. These can be studied to see the effect of environmental change. They can be used to monitor pollution - eg. lichen and mayfly larvae.
3 of 6
Non-living Indicator
Something that can be measured to check for environmental change. Eg. Temperature
4 of 6
Competition
The process by which living organisms compete with each other for limited resources, eg. food, light, water, mates.
