Rational mind (motivated by reality principle) knowing you can't have everything you want but works to balance the demands of the ID and anxieties of Supergo. Present at 1-3 yrs. Knowing you can't have a snack as you have dinner later.

SUPEREGO
Conscious mind, (motivate by morale sense and values instilled at childhood). Stores and enforces rules, strive for perfection. Present at 4-6 yrs e.g. Knowing you can't steal an iPhone 6S+

Displacement
Taking out your impulses on less threatening things.

Repression
Ego not allowing impulses from the ID into the conscious mind. For protection against threatening or traumatic experiences. Happens unconsciously.

Stating an anxiety/problem does not exist e.g. addicts

ID. Age (0-1). Focal pleasure is mouth e.g. mother's breast
