Machine reductionsim - ignores the influence of human emotion and motivation on cognitvie system e.g. memory is affected by emotional factors e.g. anxiety on EWT. Application to everyday life- cog. psych to abstract in nature lack external validity.

real life application - develpment of psychoactive drugs that treat e.g. depression. Cant separate nature and nurture e.g. any similarites between twins is genetic but could be environment (nurture)
