The manager type/skill, the size and nature of the business, whether the business in centralized or decentralized, the use of objectives within the business (lots of objectives= narrow(individual specifics), few objectives = wide(work together)

wide= controlling 8 people Narrow= 3 people (examples)

Benefits/downsides of a narrow span of control
allows for close supervision of employees, enables efficient communication within the business/requires hierarchical tiers which could lead to issues with power

gives employees freedom/independence which could encourage creativity, requires less managers (cheaper)/ harder to keep track of whats going on, not suitable for inexperienced or unskilled employees

what does a tall hierarchical structure supply to a business?(advantages/disadvantages)
narrow(tight/specific) spans of control, room for promotion within the business(motivational)/ communication takes longer, lots of staff increases costs (expensive)

what does a flat hierarchical structure supply to a business?(advantages/disadvantages)
wide span of control- greater empowerment of staff, fewer staff;less costs, increased communication speed/ little promotional opportunities ( de-motivating) - can be hard to manage with wide control
