What does congenital mean?
Congenital means: problems present at birth. For example, sometimes a baby is born with a hole in its heart.

Acquired means: problems that develop over time. For example, arrhythmia is a problem with the electrical signal in the heart.

It is a sever congenital problem where blood that isn’t good enough reaches the lungs and the oxygen. (Poor blood circulates the body.)

What is the cause of hypoglycaemia?
Hypoglycaemia is caused when someone has an insulin over dose, not enough food or have another disease. For example, pancreatic cancer, reduction of liver function or alcoholism.

Hyperglycaemia is caused by someone having too much food, having untreated diabetes, not enough insulin or stress.

What are the basic principles of the pulmonary tests?
Diffusion capacity, Residual volume, Function reserve capacity, Total lung capacity, Gas diffusion test. For example, arterial blood gases analysis, pulse oximetry.

What is cystic fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic condition and is usually diagnosed around birth, it is a thick sticky mucus build up in the lungs, digestive system, the stomach and reproductive system.

What is emphysema?
Emphysema is a lifestyle condition and it can be cause by smoking or living in an area with a lot of pollution and it means the air sacs in the lungs become enlarged as the walls break down.
