How do antibiotics lead to osmotic lysis to combat bacteria?
inhibits enzyme for chemical bonds in cell wall, weakens so water moves in by osmosis, cell expands, cause pressure, bursts open

What is a mutation?
change in base sequence in DNA of a gene, cause different protein to be produced, different characteristic
2 of 5
What are the ways antibiotic resitance can be passed on between bacteria?
1. vericle gene transmission- asexual reproduction so exact copy of parent cell produce with genes, 2. horizontal gene transmission- conjugation, where bacteria join together and copy of one of the bacteria's plasmid is passed on, other species too
3 of 5
What is natural selection?
adaptation (characteristic which increase chance of survival) more likely to survive so reproduce and pass on allele, adaptation becomes more common in population
