Land and sea pollution, many people have given up traditional jobs e.g. fishing and joined tourism industry, accidents with ships/aircraft, oil spills, waste disposal problems, animals get scared(too many humans)

How does Antarctica cope with tourism?
All tour operators are part of the IAATO, visitors are not allowed to visit SSSIs, all activities in Antractica need a permit, no ship carrying over 500 passengers can dock at the main harbor, smaller boats cannot have more than 100 passengers,

International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (has a code of conduct)

How do these measures help protect Antarctica?
IAATO- code of conduct says no litter no smoking,wildlife not disturbed, always have supervision, don't walk on plant life, boat limits reduces sea pollution and also numbers of visitors therefore protecting animals.

What concerns are there for the future?
Larger ships will start arriving, wildlife and ice may not be able to cope, more work would need to be put in to ensure environment stays the same

The Antarctica Treaty came into force in 1961, inernational agreement, signed by 47 countries to protect and conserve the area
