Tourists can trample plants, disturb plants&drop litter/ Fears that foreign diseases and species will wipe out the existing ones/Spilling&sinking of ships damages delicate marine life eg by killing muscles meaning some birds have no food source

What is the Antarctic Treaty?
An agreement put in place since 1961 and has now been signed by 47 countries, designed to protect and conserve the area, plant life and animal life. Eg in 2009 it was agreed only ships under 500 people could land&max 100 people on shore at a time

What are the 7 code of conduct put in place by IAATO?
Specially protected areas/Wildlife must not be distubed/No litter/No smoking/Each group must have a qualified guide/Tourists must not step on fragile plant life/Sewage must be treated biologically&all other waste must be kept on boat
