reared 16 baby monkeys on 2 wire 'monkeys' one condition - milk dispensed from wire mokey condition 2- milk on wire monkey and was covered in cloth

when frightened monkeys went to soft monkey, regardless if it despensed milk. = contact comfort is more important than food

how did maternally deprived monkeys behave as adults?
monkeys reared on wire mother were the most dysfunctional, did not mate often, killed their babies, not sociable

90 days - if they do not form an attachment it was irreversible
