what substances are transported in the blood?
oxygen - from lungs - to all body cells

carbon dioxide - from all body cells - to lungs

glucose - from digestive sydstem - to liver then body cells

urea - from liver - to kidneys

arteries:

carry blood away from heart
carry oxegenated blood
carry blood under high pressure
thick muscular walls to pump blood
lumen(channel of blood vessell) is narrow
veins:

carry blood to heart
carry deoxygenated blood
carry blood under low pressure
thin walls
wide lumen
2 of 7
plasma: transports carbon dioxide
red blood cell: transports oxygen
white blood cell: ingests poathogesn, produces antibodies
plateltes: involved in blood clotting
3 of 7
lymphocytes: produce antibodies

platelets: stop bleeding;
1. proteins on surface enable them to stick to breaks in blood vessell and clump together
2. secrete proteins that result in series of chemcila reactions that make blood clot
blod products: componnets of blood given to patients by transfusion ettc. red blood cells, platelts

screened for: infectious agenst such as HIV
their blood group
presenecsn of antiobdies

CHD -CORONARY HEART DISEASE:

the coronary arteries blocked due to fatty material
If a blockage builds up, the amount of oxygen reaching the heart muscle is reduced. A person will develop chest pain, and if left untreated, a heart attack is the result. This can cause damage to, or death of the heart muscle. Part of the heart muscle, or

Statins
Statins are drugs that help to lower cholesterol in the blood. They do this by lowering its production in the liver.

Statins are prescribed for people with heart disease or who have a high risk of developing it.
They need to be taken long-term. Cholesterol levels will rise again if a person stops taking them.

Some patients taking statins often experience side-effects such as headaches and memory loss. There have been reports of statins being linked with type 2 d

STENTS:
Coronary arteries that are blocked or have become narrow can be stretched open and a stent inserted to restore and maintain blood flow.

metal cage pushing arteries open
They can be used in instances where drugs are less effective, and offer a longer term solution.
Risk factors depend on the patient's:

age
general health
whether they have had a heart attack
The operation is safe as it does not involve surgery, but ther
