What did the Ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras believe about sex?
Humans should abstain from the physical and live a quiet contemplative life. He believed that the soul was imprisoned in the body and that you had to free it to move to a new life. The physical inhibits this process and so sex isn't holy.

Who were the Cyrenaics?
a group who celebrated physical pleasure and led a life of sensual enjoyment. They saw immediate physical pleasures as the supreme good and pursued them.

What are the modern attitudes towards sex and relationships?
Sexual pleasure is often presented as a holy grail, pursued for it's immediate physical satisfaction. This egoistical attitude observes that any consentual sex is morally right. Monogamy and commitment beyond the moment are not required.

What are the consequences of this modern attitude to sex?
Rising concern over sexual crimes, rising teen pregnancy rates, higher STD rates. Also have greater difficulty in maintaining committed loving relationships and divorce is increasing.
