Median/sagittal plane
Vertical plane passing through the centre of the body

Coronal/frontal plane
Vertical plane at right angles to the sagittal plane - it splits the body into anterior and posterior

A horizontal plane that divides the body into cranial and caudal sections (cross section)

Extension/flexion

Dorsiflexion
Extension at the ankle or wrist joint

The movement which decreases the angle between the sole of the foot and the back of the leg

Movements that tilt the sole of the foot away from or towards the midline of the body

Protraction/retraction
These refer to an anterior or posterior movement

Movement in a superior or inferior direction
