Optic Nerve
A bundle of sensory neurons that transport impulses from the eye to the brain
1 of 11
Conjunctiva
thin transparent membrane that helps protect the eye and is sensitive to pressure
2 of 11
Cornea
curved, clear front area of sclera which protects the eye, allows light to enter and refracts
3 of 11
sclera
white, touch coating that protects the eye and helps maintain its shape
4 of 11
retina
thin layer of nerve cells at the back of the eye which contains light receptors (rods and cones) and changes light energy into electrochemical energy
5 of 11
choroid
black pigmented vascular layer which absorbs stray light and supplies blood to cells
6 of 11
ciliary body
a muscle that pulls sensory ligaments which alters the shape of the lens by contraction
7 of 11
iris
thin, coloured muscle which controls pupil size by dilation and contraction
8 of 11
lens
biconvex transparent disc which refracts light rays
9 of 11
aqueous humour
watery clear fluid between pupil and lens that refracts light and maintains the shape of the eye
10 of 11
vitreous humour
jelly like clear fluid between lens and retina that refracts light and maintains the shape of the eye
