What happens if you exercise for a longer period of time?
You will respire anaerobically.
1 of 8
What is produced during anaerobic respiration?
As respiration is not efficient (glucose is not broken down properly) LACTIC ACID is produced as a waste product.
2 of 8
What does lactic acid cause?
Muscle fatigue.
3 of 8
What causes the tiredness (fatigue) after exercising for a long period?
The build up of lactic acid.
4 of 8
What happens when muscles respire anaerobically?
They build up an 'oxygen debt'.
5 of 8
How is 'oxygen debt' reduced?
By deep breathing taking in more oxygen, the oxygen oxidises the lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water. Warming down after exercise also breaks down lactic acid.
6 of 8
What happens to someone who is 'physically fit' after exercise?
They recover faster and their breaths per minute is less than someone who is not fit.
7 of 8
How is lactic acid removed from the muscles?
Via the blood.
