this suggests to the audience that she feels sympathetic towards Eva Smith and she is shock as she is not brought up to hear these kind of stories

this alludes that she is/was jealous and shallow. she uses the word 'very' to empathesis her envious of Eva, which women are in competition with each other rather than sticking together and helping each other out.

the repetition of 'and' suggests that she realizes what she done was wrong and the phrase alludes to the audience that she gets to have her say because she's of a higher class.

this gives the audience an impression that she doesn't have a cold heart and she feels partly responsible and wants to make amends.

suggesting that she feels unfaithful and has no trust for Gerald
