1875. -Discovered x-rays when experimenting with cathode rays. - Could see through anything except bone and metal. - IMMEDIATE IMPACT Hospitals had installed x-ray machines within 6 months of the discovery. - Used to treat soldiers in the war

-Discovered penicillin by accident. -Came back from holiday and found mould on the dirty dishes, except for where there was 'mould juice' which he named penicillin

-Developed penicllin. -Flew to the USA to spread the word. -Did and experiment with 8 mice, 4 had penicillin and 4 didnt, the 4 with penicillin survived. -saved many people in the war

-Set up a business in Gloucestershire but people refused inoculation because they believed if you got cowpox you were immune to smallpox. -Tested the theory on James Phipps which proved the theory right. -Didnt know how it worked just knew it did

-When treating wounded soldiers he ran out of burning oil so made an ointment out of turpentine egg yolk and oil of roses. -realised the people treated with ointment were in better condition. -Used ligatures to tie off blood vessels. -
