What was the watergate scandal?
it was an office block in DC Nixons committee to Re-elect the president, wanted to get Democratic party secrets, they did 2 illegal breakins to install survelliance technology, Nixon tried to cover the administrations involvement,approval rating sank

Nixon recorded conversations in the whitehouse, in 1974 congress ordered that he was to release all of them and it was revealed he ordered the cover up, he was going to be impeached with obstruction of justice so he resigned in 1974, pardoned by Ford

he sent helicoptors on an unsuccessful mission to rescue hostages, 3 helicoptors were damages, Carter agreed to abandon the mission but 1 helicoptor crashed and burst in to flames killing 8 Americans and burning 4

Ford (1974-77)= Americans thought he was a regular guy but he lost his popularity when he pardoned Nixon, the media enjoyed making fun of him falling down (LBJ said “he had played football once too often without the helmet on”)

he was an undecisive leader and when he changed his mind on taxation the press said “President Ford may not have turned the economy around, but at least he had turned himself around

Carter (1977-81)= news of his micromanagement leaked out, his relationship with the house of commons was poor “Carter didnt seem to understand”, Media reffered to his wife as “Mrs President”, in 79 18% of Americans had a lot of confidence in him

Love canal was so full of pollution that it caused disproportionate amounts of miscarriages and birth defects in the local area
