Define empirical formula
The simpilist ratio of atoms in a molecule

Define molecular formula
The actual ratio of atoms in a molecule

Define structural formula
The atoms of a molecule written carbon by carbon with the attached hydrogens and functional groups of each one shown.

Define displayed formula
a structual drawing of the molecule showing how the atoms are arranged.

Define homologous series
Organic compounds with the same general formula and similar chemical properties.

Define functional groups
The reactive part of a molecule (eg. -OH alcohol)

Define a chain isomer
A molecule with the same molecular formula but different carbon skeleton
