Aerobic and Anaerobic Respiration

?
What does respiration allow?
Allows= energy to be released from the sugar glucose
1 of 13
Aerobic respiration word equation?
glucose + oxygen ➝ carbon dioxide + water
2 of 13
Describe changes in body when you exercise?
- Increase of heart rate - Rate of breathing increases -Arteries supplying muscles widen -Increase of sweating at the skin
3 of 13
Explain changes that happen when exercise?
- Faster transport of glucose + oxygen to muscle cells - Increased rate of diffusion of oxygen + CO2 at lungs - Faster release of heat from body prevents enzymes denaturing
4 of 13
Why would aerobic respiration stop?
Oxygen could not get to cells quick enough and energy still being needed
5 of 13
Anaerobic respiration word equation?
glucose ➝ lactic acid (+ energy)
6 of 13
Why anaerobic respiration not as useful to cells as Aerobic respiration
-Less energy released as glucose not fully broken down - Oxygen debt builds up
7 of 13
What happens to lactic acid?
Must be oxidised into carbon dioxide and water
8 of 13
Where does respiration take place?
In all living cells
9 of 13
Structure in cell respiration happens? Where is this found?
Mitochondria + Found inside cytoplasm
10 of 13
What controls all chemical reactions in cytoplasm?
Enzymes
11 of 13
Why do cells regulate temperature?
Beacause processes like ozmosos won't function properly and respiration wills top and cells will die
12 of 13
How is energy released used?
-Build larger molecules from smaller e.g. glycogen from glucose -Mammals and birds are warm blooded maintain steady body temperature in cold weather -Plants build up nitrates
