Aerobic and anaerobic respiration

?
What is respiration?
Respiration is a chemical reaction which happens in the mitochondria in animal and plant cells
1 of 15
What does the chemical reaction convert glucose + oxygen to?
The chemical reaction converts glucose + oxygen = energy + carbon dioxide + water vapour
2 of 15
What is aerobic respiration?
Aerobic respiration is respiration which uses oxygen
3 of 15
Where does aerobic respiration happen?
Aerobic respiration happens in the cells of animals and plants. It happens in the mitochondria of the cell
4 of 15
What is anaerobic respiration?
Anaerobic respiration is respiration without oxygen
5 of 15
What is anaerobic respiraion used for?
Anaerobic respiration is used to keep mammals and birds body temperature constant
6 of 15
What are muscles made of?
Muscles are made of protein fibres
7 of 15
What do muscle fibres need a lot of to contract?
Muscle fibres need a lot of energy to contract
8 of 15
What do muscle fibres contain which give them energy by aerobic respiration?
Muscle fibres contain lots of mitochondria to give them energy by aerobic respitation
9 of 15
What do your muscles contain which is a stored carbohydrate?
Your muscles contain glycogen which is a stored carbohydrate
10 of 15
What can be converted quickly into glucose to supply the muscles with energy.
Glycogen can be quickly converted into glucose to supply the muscles with energy
11 of 15
When you exercise what happens as your heart rate increases? And what do the changed do?
As your heart rate increases the arteries supplying your blood to the muscles dilate. And the changes increase the blood flow to your exercising muscles.
12 of 15
When the blood flow increases to the exercising muscles what happens to the supply of oxygen and glucose to the muscles?
When the blood flow to the exercising muscles increases it increases the supply of oxygen and glucose to the muscles and also increases the rate at which carbon dioxide is removed
13 of 15
What is the product of anaerobic respiration?
The product of anaerobic respiration is lactic acid
14 of 15
What is oxygen debt?
Oxygen debt is the amount of oxygen needed to break down lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water
