Adaptions

?
Why are adaptions good?
They increase an organisms chance of survival and reproduction and the chances of its offspring reproducing successfully.
1 of 6
What 3 categories can adaptions fit into?
Behavioural (e.g. playing dead to avoid predators), Phyiological (processes that happen inside of organisms body that increase chance of survival) and anatomical (structural features of organisms body that increase survival chance)
2 of 6
Why can organisms from different taxonomic groups have similar features?
may have similar features even though not closely related as they may have evolved in similar environments and to fill similar ecological niches.
3 of 6
What are the differences between Masupial and placental mammals?
Marsupial: Have short pregnancy, don't develop full placenta, born early in development and climb into mothers pouch where they receive milk and carry on development. Placental: longer pregnancy, develop placenta, born more fully developed
4 of 6
What is convergent evolution?
When two species evolve similar characteristics independently of one another because they have adapted to live in similar environments.
5 of 6
Give an example of convergent evolution?
Marsupial and Placental moles. Small or nonexistent eyes (don't need to see underground), no external ears (streamline for burrowing), scoop shaped and powerful front paws, Claws specialised for digging, tube shaped body and cone shaped head.
