Define evolution.

Evolution is the gradual change in inherited characteristics over time, it can lead to new species.

Many early forms of life were soft-bodied meaning they leave very few traces behind, it is likely that alot of traces that were left behind were destroyed by geological activity.

Fossils provide some evidence for evolution as scientists can observe changes in fossils over millions of years, the development of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria can be explained by the theory of natural selection.

Darwin observed that- organisms produce large numbers of offspring, populations stay at a steady size, organisms vary, characteristics can be inherited. Darwin concluded that organisms pass their characteristics onto their offspring.
