Define passive
Transport of moleculesoccur without the use of metabolic energy (ATP)
1 of 12
Define active transport
movement of ions/molecules from a region of lower conectration to a higher concentration using ATP and CARRIER PROTEINS
2 of 12
Whis is the ATP used for in active transport
directley move molecules | CO TRANSPORT--> individually move molecules using conc grad (set up by direct active transport)
3 of 12
Difference between passive tranport and active transport
metabolic engery required (ATP) | moved against conc gradient | carrier protein used as a 'punp' | process is selective
4 of 12
How does Active transport happen
Molec/ion bind to the receptors on carrier protein. ATP bind to proten which changes the shape of the protein and open up at the opposite side of membrane. molec/ion is release. Phosphate release from proten so it reverts its shape
5 of 12
Where does active transport occur
it Na-K pump (Na+ are transported out of the epithelial cell into the blood, K+ are taken in by sorrounding )
6 of 12
Why is it important to have mitochondria
AT requires ATP which mitochondria supplies from respiration
7 of 12
Simiarity between active transport and faciliated diffusion
uses carrier protein
8 of 12
Why is important for active stransport to occur in reabsorption in kidney
because it reabsorbs ALL the glucose molecules, leaving none to be lost inthe body
9 of 12
Similarities between faciliated diffusion and active transport
uses carrier protein
10 of 12
Why is mitochondria important
AT requires ATP which it suplies by respiration
11 of 12
Whi is itimportant for reabsorption to occur in the kidney using AT
it absorbs ALL the glucose molecules instead of the glucose molecules being lost in the body
