what pH value is pure water?
pH value 7
1 of 6
what are acids?
acids are substances that produce hydrogen ions, H+(aq), when they are added to water.
2 of 6
what solution is produced when we add a substance to water?
an aqueous solution. the state symbol is (aq) shows that the ions are in aqueous solution.
3 of 6
what do hydrogen ions do?
make a solution acidic and they have a pH value of less than 7.
4 of 6
what are alkalis?
are bases that dissolve in water to make alkaline solutions. alkalis produce hydroxide ions, OH-(aq, in the solution. alkaline solutions have pH values greater than 7
5 of 6
what are Bases?
