Is bond breaking exothermic or endothermic and why?
Breaking bonds is an endothermic reaction as the energy needed to provide this reaction can be provided from the surroundings,
1 of 6
Why is bond making exothermic?
As when two atoms are joined together, they form a covalent bond and energy is released when this bond is created and is released to its surroundings,
2 of 6
At the end of an exothermic reaction, do the products have more or less energy than the reactants and why?
They will have less energy as the energy created is released to its surroundings,
3 of 6
At the end of an endothermic reaction, do the products have more or less energy than the reactants and why?
The products have more energy as when the bond is formed, energy is created and this means the products have more energy
4 of 6
What is the unit for bond energy?
kJmol-1/ kJ/mol
5 of 6
What is the equation to work out the change in energy in a reaction?
Sum of energy required to break old bonds - sum of energy released by new bonds formed.
