causes of respiratory alkalosis
panic attack, PE, pneumothorax, hypoxia, pneumothorax, pain
1 of 6
how does hyperventilation cause parasthesiae
alkaloid blood makes H ions dissociate from albumin & more free Ca binds to albumin. so reduces free Ca ions
2 of 6
how does vomiting cause metabolic alkalosis?
reduced HCL so less H available to bind to HCO3 so more free HCO3. The dehydration also induces aldosterone to increase HCO3 reabsorption.
3 of 6
how does sepsis cause metabolic acidosis
sepsis causes reduced end organ perfusion causing hypoxia. this causes anaerobic respiration producing lactic acid.
4 of 6
how does DKA lead to metabolic acidosis?
EX glucose takes water with it so person becomes dehydrated. Lack of insulin causes fatty acts to leak from adipose tissue that get covered to ketones. This makes blood acidic.
5 of 6
what is the extreme form of hyperventilation called?
Kussmaul breathing
