it gave women new freedoms, it helped women to have more control over their own body, it helped towards sex being a more talked about topic in the press, such as in the profumo scandal

religious reasons- interfering with nature, traditional- women were not supposed to have so much control, many people did not like the fact that sex became more acceptable to talk about

it rose from about 52,000 to about one million

better technology such as washing machines and cars gave people more free time. more cars meant people could get around more easily, people were earning more money for less hours
