What is desizing?
Size (starchy substance) applied to warp yarns before they are woven to strengthen them. Most are soluble in water so can be removed.

What is scouring?
Removes fatty & waxy impurities that would stop the fabric getting wet. Washed in solvents. Not suitable for wool.

Removing unwanted colour using bleach before dyeing.

What is dope dyeing?
Dye added to the spinning solution of man-made fibres before spinning. Good light and wash fastness.

Fibres dyed in loose form. Cheap. Any uneven dyeing removed in blending process

Yarns dyed before made into a fabric

What is piece dyeing?
woven or knitted fabrics dyed as fabric pieces

What is garment dyeing?
Made up garments dyed. Allows colour to be added at last minute to meet trends
