A2 BIOLOGY OCR UNIT 1 - PHOTOSYNTHESIS FLASH CARDS

QUESTIONS MADE FROM REVISION GUIDE - TEST YOURSELF!

?
Give the name of a coenzyme involved in photosynthesis and describe its use.
NADP. Transfers hydrogen from one molecule to another, it can reduce or oxidise a molecule.
1 of 12
Name 2 photosynthetic pigments in chloroplasts of plants.
1) Chlorophyll a 2) Carotene
2 of 12
At what wavelength does photosystem I absorb light best?
700nm
3 of 12
What 3 substances does non-cyclic photophosphorylation produce?
ATP, Reduced NADP, Oxygen
4 of 12
What photosystem is involved in cyclic photophosphorylation?
Photosystem I
5 of 12
Where in the chloroplasts does the light-independent reaction occur?
Stroma
6 of 12
Name two organic substances made from triose phosphate.
Carbohydrates, lipids
7 of 12
How many CO2 molecules need to enter the Calvin cycle to make one hexose sugar?
6
8 of 12
Describe two ways in which a chloroplast is adapted for photosynthesis.
1) Thylakoids have a large surface area to allow as much light energy to absorbed as possible 2) Stroma contains all the enzymes, sugars and organic acids for the light-dependent reaction to take place.
9 of 12
Where in the plant does the light-dependent reaction occur?
Thylakoid membranes
10 of 12
In the light-dependent reaction, what is the purpose of photolysis?
Photolysis splits water into hydrogens and electrons. The electrons from the water replace the electrons lost from the chlorophyll.
11 of 12
How is ribulose biphosphate regenerated in the calvin cycle?
It is regenerated from triose phosphate. ATP provides the energy to do this.
